About the Spirits

Imported through High Road Spirits, Akashi and Iwai bring two distinct perspectives on Japanese whisky tradition.

Akashi, produced by White Oak Distillery in Hyōgo, is celebrated for its smooth, approachable style. Often lighter in body, Akashi whiskies show notes of orchard fruit, vanilla, and gentle oak — crafted for balance and everyday sipping while still reflecting Japan’s meticulous attention to detail.

Iwai, from Mars Shinshu in the Nagano Alps, draws inspiration from both Japanese and American whisky-making. Known for its soft texture and layered character, Iwai often highlights flavors of ripe stone fruit, honey, and baking spice, with a subtle smokiness that makes it highly versatile in cocktails as well as neat pours.

Together, Akashi and Iwai showcase the range and refinement of modern Japanese whisky — elegant, expressive, and deeply tied to place.
